CDs: Give the Gift of Savings This Holiday

Certificates of deposit (CDs) are safe, secure savings investments people fund to save and earn money at the same time. The value of a CD is determined primarily by two factors: the minimum deposit required, and the annual percentage yield (APY) earned for the term.

For example, the minimum deposit needed for our CDs is $500 for Youth Group CDs and $1000 for all other CDs, and the APY earned begins at 0.30% APY for a six month term, increasing as terms increase as well as household Member Merits benefits.* Both factors can vary considerably from one financial institution to another and one CD to another, making it important to shop around before you make a deposit.

CDs Make a Great Holiday Gift

We all want to give special loved ones presents they’ll enjoy, but it can be tough to choose the just-right, big-ticket items. This is why many people give money as a gift. Instead of cash, gift the special people in your life money in the form of CDs.

A CD gift will encourage your loved ones to save:  Regardless of the amount you deposit in a CD, it’s likely to make a meaningful contribution to the recipient’s savings — and it encourages the person to keep the money instead of spending it. After all, it’s much easier to spend money straight from a cash, check or even gift card.

A CD gift keeps giving:  Because we all want a gift we give to be memorable, a gift that “keeps on giving” is among the best. A CD is this kind of gift in the most literal sense. After the term matures, the account is worth more than the original deposit as interest has been earned … and paid!
