13 Personal Finance Dates for 2018

There are many important dates to keep track of in a year, so it’s easy to forget events that only require a computer and financial documents.  Add these days to the calendar to keep on top of all things “personal finance” related.

 number one in blue box  January 1, 2018:  First Day to Fund Retirement for 2017

The first day of the year is a great opportunity to review how you’re currently saving for retirement and make adjustments for 2018. 

number two in blue box  January 16, 2018: 4th Quarter 2017 Estimated Tax Payment Due

Self-employed or additional income accrued throughout the year should have 4th quarter taxes filed and paid by January 16th.  Visit the IRS website for additional information on self-employment quarterly tax payments.

number three in blue box  April 17th, 2018: Tax Day

The 2017 personal income tax filing due day is Tuesday, April 17th.  While Tax Day is typically April 15th, the deadline is moved when it falls on a holiday or weekend.

number four in blue box  April 17th, 2018: Last Day to Make 2017 IRA Contribution

If you’re planning on supplementing funds to your traditional or Roth IRA, this is the deadline for all 2017 contributions.

June 15th, 2018: 2nd Quarter 2018 Estimated Tax Payment Due

number seven in blue box  June 30th, 2018: Last Day to File for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

Headed to college for the 2018-2019 school year?  Mark June 30th in the calendar as the last day to file for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA—which grants access to federal student loans and grants.  Visit our StudentChoice page to learn more about financial aid and student loan information.

number eight in blue box  September 17th, 2018: 3rd Quarter 2018 Estimated Tax Payment Due

number nine in blue box  October 1st, 2018: First Day to File FAFSA for 2019-2020 School Year

Filing for FAFSA is now available earlier than ever before.  If you plan on attending college for the 2019-2020 school year, you can start filing!

number ten in blue box  October 15th, 2018: Tax Day Extension Deadline

If you filed for an extension at tax time for your personal income taxes, this is the new deadline to file your completed 2017 return.

number eleven in blue box  October 15th, 2018: Last Day to Switch 2017 Roth IRA Conversion

If your IRA was transferred from a traditional to Roth IRA in 2017, this is the deadline for undoing the conversion.

number twelve in blue box  December 31st, 2018: Last Day to Take Required Minimum Distributions from IRAs

If you meet the age requirement, this is the deadline to take the required annual minimum withdrawal from your qualified retirement account(s).

number thirteen in blue box  December 31st, 2018: Last Day to Make Charitable Giving for 2018 Taxes

According to current tax laws, you can make charitable donation to any nonprofit organization (501c3) until the last day of the year in order to claim your gift when filing 2018 taxes.  Browse available nonprofit organizations to make a donation.
